The Time to Go

Collapsed in your arms, clasping you tightly
Trying to hear the heartbeat that night
The last week of your stay has driven me weary
And so I held you closer without putting up a fight

Not protesting as you rested your chin on my head
Like the sensation of lying there on top of you
Never minding that you have another one, but instead
Holding on to you as if I had no clue

The days are numbered and are coming to an end
Soon the hands that held will have to let go
Giving you all the warmth that my body could lend
Before we depart in the fast approaching tomorrow

Trying to pretend that this will all be easy to forget
I create as much memory as my time ever could
Assuring myself that the memories I've come to collect
Will, by daylight, never be as good
