Numbness

An absent-minded love is all we have
I knew from the moment you touched me
With absent-minded hands
Like a child playing with his toys
But not caring about human emotions.

I knew from the moment you held my hands
Lightly, loosely, occasionally letting go
As if you're not holding
The entire world at your palms

I knew from the moment you touched my skin
There was no electricity or spark it used to have
Now it's just edges against edges
It could have been anybody

I knew from the moment you touched my body
No longer was it sensual or thoughtful
It was playful in the way you groped objects
Not because you're curious, but because it's nearby

It's like there is no more hidden mystery to discover
No depths unknown and corners missing
That you are trying to search with your fingers

There is no more softness to lay your head to
No comfort in the warmth
As if every treasure you have now
Is just a treasure left behind.
