A sudden chick from out of the blue
Calls your name out to you
Asking if she could tag along
Be with your team all summer long
And she walks in so eagerly and cheerfully
Into your exclusive team building activity
She makes friends with your members
Get to know their details by the numbers
She brought with her a bag of snacks
Obviously took her time to pack
The clothes for this trip that were worn
Were picked about a week before
Then you go out injuring your self,
She walks away by herself
And comes back with a pack of ice
Giving it to you while avoiding your eyes
And though she hates small talk she asks questions
Anything just to strike up a conversation
You probably have zero idea when it began
But she definitely did not want the night to end
Underneath the stars you lied down by the beach
As close to you as about an inch
She holds her breath as she try to hear yours
Keeping her heartbeat down to her core
And though you almost crushed her underneath your weight
When you slept beside her in a van, by faith
She resisted pushing you away
Not wanting to wake you up that way.
And now you might seem to judge her
Maybe you already know or confirmed
That maybe, just maybe, the reasoned that she joined for the summer
Is that she wanted you to get to know more of her
And maybe that does not fit your ivory tower standard
But she doesn't care, she's showing all her cards
Because even though you don't deserve the love she gives
Maybe she doesn't mind even though she has nothing to receive
From you and your cold, proud heart
Who doesn't cry out in pain on its part
You who thinks asking is a weakness
Who think being to talkative meant gentleness
And though she has seen the worse and the better
She will stay with you all through summer
Because she believes you have more potential
Than even most of your best athletic skills
